A shocking case in La Plata has drawn national attention after a well-known athlete was arrested in connection with a deadly shooting. The incident has left many stunned, given the suspect’s remarkable life story and achievements.
Professional Cornhole Player Arrested
Dayton Webber, 27, a quadruple amputee and professional athlete, has been arrested for allegedly shooting and killing a man during an argument. Authorities say the incident happened on March 22 while Webber was driving a car with others inside.
Police report that the victim was seated in the front passenger seat when the shooting occurred. Afterward, Webber allegedly stopped the vehicle and asked others to help remove the body, but they refused and left the scene.
Body Discovered Hours Later
A few hours after the incident, a homeowner reported finding a body in their yard. Investigators later connected the case to Webber. Authorities tracked his vehicle to Charlottesville, where he was found at a hospital and taken into custody.
He is now being held in jail and faces both first- and second-degree murder charges.
Remarkable Life Before Arrest
Webber’s story had previously inspired many. As an infant, he suffered a severe bacterial infection that led doctors to amputate both his arms and legs to save his life. Despite this, he grew up active in sports, including football and wrestling.
Later, he found success in cornhole, becoming the first quadruple amputee to compete professionally in the sport. His achievements earned him recognition, with appearances on major sports platforms and media coverage.
Unique Skills and Adaptation
Despite his disability, Webber developed unique ways to perform everyday tasks and even compete at a high level. He adapted his playing technique in cornhole and also learned how to handle firearms using modified methods, as seen in past videos.
These abilities, once seen as inspiring, have now become part of a much more serious investigation.
Case Under Investigation
Authorities say the shooting followed an argument, but further details about what led to the incident are still under investigation. Officials are working to understand the full sequence of events and determine motive.
