Her last act of bravery: According to police, a Navy veteran was killed in the McDonald's parking lot while "protecting" her mother and child from a gun-wielding woman who was upset that her car door had struck her car.

Shoshanha Jones, 39, faces murder, robbery, and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon charges after allegedly shooting 28-year-old U.S. Navy veteran Mayra Rodriguez Munoz once in the chest at a Louisville, Kentucky McDonald’s on December 31, 2025. The incident stemmed from a dispute where a teen allegedly hit Jones’ vehicle with a car door around 10:40 p.m. in the 400 block of East Market Street; Munoz intervened to protect the mother and child, suffering a fatal wound.

Incident Sequence

Police reports indicate Jones yelled at the teen, argued with the mother who tried filming, grabbed her phone at gunpoint, and fired when Munoz exited their vehicle. Jones fled but surrendered peacefully to authorities via her attorney; her ID was found near shell casings at the scene. Munoz, honorably discharged in 2022 after five years of service, died at the scene despite efforts to save her.

During her January 13, 2026 bond hearing, defense attorney Keith Kamenish disputed police accounts, claiming Jones was approached by three people including a near-18-year-old while eating, and described her as a mother who acted in fear. Bond was set at $500,000 with no-contact orders for McDonald’s and witnesses; her next court date is January 26. Family memorials highlight Munoz’s heroism, with a GoFundMe praising her final act of bravery.
