Martin Duberry, 31, from Powder Springs in Cobb County, Georgia, faces charges including two counts of felony murder for fatally shooting his 72-year-old mother, Monica Brookins, and 73-year-old stepfather, John Wells, on December 6, 2025.

The couple had returned home from celebrating Wells’ birthday when Duberry attacked them, shooting Brookins five times and Wells three times, including initial head shots. He called 911 himself afterward, telling investigators he was “tired of them and just wanted to be alone,” unaware of how many additional shots he fired.

Police responded to the home, finding Duberry present as neighbors witnessed him emerging with hands up amid drawn weapons. The victims were rushed to a hospital but pronounced dead on arrival; authorities described it as an isolated domestic incident, with Duberry also charged with eight counts of aggravated battery and firearm possession during a crime.

Neighbors portrayed Brookins and Wells as kind, welcoming people who had recently allowed Duberry to live with them, expressing shock at the betrayal.
