A 44-year-old Montana man will most certainly spend the rest of his life in prison after fatally stabbing his lover, 34, in the neck and chest about two years ago.

According to court records, Gallatin County District Judge Rienne McElyea sentenced Christopher Brandon Foiles to 60 years in a state penitentiary facility for the death of Megan Ashley Stedman in 2023. McElyea imposed the sentence after Foiles reached an agreement with prosecutors in October and pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree premeditated homicide.

During Tuesday’s sentencing hearing, Stedman’s 16-year-old daughter read an impassioned victim impact statement, pleading with the judge to impose the maximum penalty on Foiles.

“I’ve dreamed of this courtroom. I wake up in a sweat because there’s just so much — but it’s finally over, and I don’t have to deal with it anymore,” she told Bozeman CBS station KBZK. “I have to carry on without her, and that aches. I know she’s still with me, spiritually, but not physically.

When given the opportunity to speak before the court, Foiles expressed contrition for his horrible deeds.

“Megan didn’t deserve what I did to her.” “I don’t go a day without thinking about Megan,” he reportedly remarked.

As previously reported by Law&Crime, Montana investigators were seeking for Stedman in January 2024 and had tied her to a 1973 RV found in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Foiles got out of the RV shortly after local cops knocked on its door.

“I am Chris Foiles,” he said, according to a probable cause document. “I killed my girlfriend. She is inside the RV.”
