Half of his brain is dead": Father walking home from work battered to within an inch of his life on the one night his wife couldn't give him a ride.

Ismael Loya, an Arizona father, was brutally attacked while walking home from work on the night of February 11, 2025, after his wife, Sophia Pinedo, couldn’t give him a ride due to her car being in the shop. Loya was found severely beaten near 27th Avenue and Bethany Home Road in Phoenix, and his wife filed a missing persons report when he failed to return home from his job.

Loya’s Condition and Wife’s Heartbreaking Plea

Loya sustained a brain injury, and doctors have informed his wife that more than half of his brain is dead. Pinedo, devastated, was told by doctors that they may need to let him go due to the severity of his injuries, but she is holding on to hope. “If he’s fought this far, maybe we can give him a little bit more time,” she said tearfully in an interview. The couple has been together for 13 years, and Pinedo continues to hope for a miracle despite the grim prognosis.

Investigation and Call for Information

Phoenix police have launched an investigation into the attack, but no suspects have been identified yet. Pinedo is urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward, asking for help in finding those responsible for the assault on her husband. Authorities have asked the public to contact the Phoenix Police Department with any information regarding the case.
