Four people were stabbed, two of whom died, at an end-of-summer pool party hosted by one of the victims, according to a prosecutor

A tragic incident unfolded at what was meant to be a fun, end-of-summer pool party in Detroit, Michigan. A violent altercation resulted in the stabbing of four people, two of whom later died. Now, 31-year-old Daiwan Lemane Hopson has been arrested and charged with multiple felony counts, including first-degree murder.

Violence Breaks Out at Backyard Gathering

According to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, the stabbing happened on August 9 during a party held at the home of 31-year-old Jakirea Williams. Hopson, who was a guest at the event, allegedly got into an argument with a 40-year-old man in the backyard.

Prosecutors say the fight quickly escalated, and Hopson is accused of pulling out a knife and repeatedly stabbing the man. As the conflict moved to the front yard, more people became involved, including the host, Jakirea Williams, and two other guests: 25-year-old Martisha Payne and another 31-year-old man.

Four Stabbed, Two Killed

All four victims were rushed to the hospital, but only two survived the attack. Williams and Payne were both among those stabbed, and tragically, two individuals did not survive their injuries.

Authorities have not yet released the names of the two deceased victims officially, but it’s confirmed that the stabbing was swift and extremely violent, catching guests by complete surprise.

Suspect Fled, Later Arrested

After the stabbing, Hopson allegedly fled the scene. He remained at large for nearly a week until his arrest on August 15. Local reports from Fox affiliate WJBK confirmed that Hopson was already on parole at the time for a previous conviction of assault with intent to cause great bodily harm. The Michigan Department of Corrections took him into custody after his arrest.

Charges Filed: First-Degree Murder and More

Hopson is facing the following charges:

Two counts of first-degree murder

Two counts of assault with intent to murder

He will be arraigned in Detroit, where the prosecution will push forward with the case. If convicted, he faces the possibility of life in prison.

A Tragic Turn at What Was Meant to Be a Celebration

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy called the incident senseless, stating:

“What started out as a friendly family and friends, end-of-the-summer gathering turned deadly with four people stabbed. Two succumbed to their injuries. A disagreement. A quick escalation. An introduction of a deadly weapon. And then multiple deaths. So senseless. So tragic. And so very violent.”

This case is a stark reminder of how quickly moments of tension can spiral into deadly violence, especially when weapons are involved.

Ongoing Investigation and Community Impact

Authorities continue to investigate the events leading up to the stabbing. The identities of the victims who passed away are expected to be formally released in the coming days.

Meanwhile, the local community is in shock, as what should have been a joyful occasion ended in trauma, loss, and mourning.
