Brian Gallardo, a 19-year-old teenager from Petaluma, California, has tragically been found dead after going missing in the Truckee River over the weekend. The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Gallardo’s body was located on Monday after a lengthy search operation.

Gallardo was reported missing on Saturday after he disappeared underwater near Floriston, California. The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) coordinated a search with several agencies, deploying K9 teams, drones, helicopters, swimmers, and ground searchers. Gallardo’s body was ultimately found by Washoe County Sheriff’s Office divers.
Challenging Conditions
The river had strong currents due to excessive snowmelt runoff, and the water temperature was around 44 degrees, making the conditions dangerous for swimming, as reported by KCRA 3.
Authorities have emphasized the hazardous nature of the river, urging the public to exercise caution when swimming in cold, fast-moving waters.

Gallardo was described by his loved ones as charismatic, ambitious, and kind. A GoFundMe page set up by his girlfriend’s mother highlighted the family’s grief: “He had goals he wanted to achieve, which were sadly cut short by this tragic event. This untimely tragedy has left us heartbroken.”
