A New York City man, Ernesto Cruz, is facing multiple charges after allegedly murdering a woman and a toddler before stabbing himself. The incident occurred on Saturday, July 19, in the Ridgewood neighborhood of Queens.
The Attack
According to the New York City Police Department, Cruz, 54, fatally stabbed Ana Pilatagsi-Moposita, 41, and her 2-year-old daughter, Analiz Cruz, inside their home. Both victims suffered multiple stab wounds to the chest and neck. Despite being rushed to the hospital, both Ana and Analiz were later pronounced dead.
Cruz’s Condition and Arrest
Cruz was also taken to the hospital, but in stable condition, after he stabbed himself in the chest. He was later charged with two counts of murder and criminal possession of a weapon. The circumstances surrounding his actions remain unclear, and it is not yet known if Cruz has retained an attorney or entered a plea.
Investigation and Motive
Reports from WABC and WNBC indicate that Cruz was married to Pilatagsi-Moposita and was the father of the toddler. Sources said that a relative of Cruz called 911 after receiving a FaceTime call from him during the attack. Authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the killings.
