William Lee, a 60-year-old from Greenfield, Wisconsin, faces first-degree reckless homicide charges for the January 13, 2026, death of 41-year-old Elaine Corbitt, a Milwaukee mother of five, in a high-speed crash near 93rd Street and Wilbur Avenue.
Crash Details
Lee was driving a 2023 Nissan Rogue nearly 100 mph (98.8 mph per event data recorder) in a 25 mph residential zone, applying full throttle without braking before striking a tree. The impact created a block-long debris field, hurled the hood 115 feet into a backyard, and scattered engine parts into a home 75 feet away; the vehicle rebounded, flipped, and caught fire.
Victim and Driver Condition
Corbitt, in the front passenger seat, died at the scene from blunt force trauma to her head, neck, chest, abdomen, back, and pelvis. Firefighters extricated Lee, who admitted to drinking “a couple of beers” around 3 p.m. and failed field sobriety tests showing impairment.
Investigation and Witnesses
Witnesses saw the Nissan swerving at excessive speed, nearly hitting other cars before the tree strike. A GoFundMe describes Corbitt as a loving, devoted mother whose loss leaves her family devastated.
Family Response
Corbitt’s brother Michael called the crash a tragic lesson for drivers, mourning the unexpected loss of their “baby sister.”
