Lamont Eugene Williams, 22, was sentenced to 12 1/2 years in prison for the second-degree murder of 21-year-old Alexif Loeza Galvan. Williams had been convicted of second-degree murder without intent in the death of Galvan, which occurred on March 6, 2025, during a drug deal gone wrong. Williams had been in communication with Galvan through Facebook Messenger, arranging to purchase marijuana before the fatal encounter took place in Bloomington, Minnesota.
The Fatal Incident and Investigation
On the evening of the crime, Galvan went outside to meet Williams, who arrived in a small, dark-colored SUV. A confrontation ensued between Galvan and an occupant of the vehicle, with Galvan being dragged by the vehicle as it accelerated. Witnesses reported seeing Galvan lying in the street a few houses down from his home, with severe trauma. Galvan was later pronounced dead at the hospital, having suffered blunt force trauma, skull fractures, and numerous other injuries.
After the incident, Williams was tracked to his mother’s Jeep Renegade, where police discovered evidence including a handgun and marijuana. The autopsy on Galvan confirmed the cause of death as blunt force trauma, and it was revealed that Galvan had injuries consistent with being dragged across the pavement.
Victim’s Family Impact and Williams’ Self-Defense Claim
During the sentencing hearing, Galvan’s family expressed the deep pain and trauma caused by his loss. Galvan’s sister, Yamilet Loeza, emotionally recounted watching her brother take his last breath. Assistant Hennepin County Attorney Krista White also highlighted the gruesome nature of Galvan’s death. Williams, however, claimed that he acted in self-defense, alleging that Galvan was the aggressor during the incident.
A GoFundMe page set up for Galvan remembered him fondly as “a light in all of our lives—always laughing, smiling, and bringing joy to everyone around him.” Despite his defense, Williams was sentenced to prison, facing the consequences of a violent, senseless act tied to a failed drug deal.
