A 34-year-old woman, Ciara Frederick, has been charged with first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon. She is accused in the death of her infant son, Enoch Chappell.

Frederick is currently being held without bond at the Buncombe County Detention Facility, according to officials.

The incident took place at a home on Rocala Drive in Barnardsville, a rural area in Buncombe County. According to the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and emergency crews responded around 2 p.m. after receiving reports of a child in distress.

When they arrived, they found the baby suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead.

Authorities also said that Frederick allegedly chased a man down the driveway of the home while holding a fixed-blade knife. This led to the additional charge of assault with a deadly weapon.
