A heartbreaking case from North Carolina has left a community in shock after the death of a 10-month-old baby. Authorities say the incident involved extreme violence and has led to serious criminal charges.
Woman Charged in Infant’s Death
A 34-year-old woman, Ciara Frederick, has been charged with first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon. She is accused in the death of her infant son, Enoch Chappell.
Frederick is currently being held without bond at the Buncombe County Detention Facility, according to officials.
Details of the Incident
The incident took place at a home on Rocala Drive in Barnardsville, a rural area in Buncombe County. According to the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and emergency crews responded around 2 p.m. after receiving reports of a child in distress.
When they arrived, they found the baby suffering from multiple stab wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead.
Additional Allegations
Authorities also said that Frederick allegedly chased a man down the driveway of the home while holding a fixed-blade knife. This led to the additional charge of assault with a deadly weapon.
Details about the relationship between Frederick and the man have not yet been released.

Sheriff Quentin Miller expressed deep sadness over the incident, stating that emergency responders did everything possible to save the child. The tragedy has left both officials and the local community shaken.
