Aaron James Moran, the 42-year-old biological father of 11-year-old Miana Moran, was arrested over the January 24-25, 2026 weekend in West Virginia on charges of murder of a child by refusal to supply necessities and child neglect resulting in death.
Incident Details
On February 16, 2025, deputies responded to a Taylor County home on Nector Street in Grafton, finding Miana unresponsive on the kitchen floor, severely malnourished at just 43 pounds—far below norms for her age—with visible protruding bones, head lice, jaundice, bruises, and lacerations.
Medical Findings
The autopsy, finalized October 7, 2025, ruled her death from bilateral acute bronchopneumonia, with failure to thrive as a key factor; she hadn’t seen a doctor since 2020 and suffered prolonged illness since mid-2024, unable to walk unassisted.
Neglect Allegations
Investigators say Moran knowingly allowed stepmother Shannon Robinson (51, arrested January 14), the primary caregiver, to isolate Miana, deny food as punishment, and withhold medical care despite fearing abuse reports; witnesses noted her progressive decline ignored by the couple.
Current Status
Robinson faces identical charges after a joint grand jury indictment. Moran, hospitalized pre-arrest, was booked without bond at North Central Regional Jail; no court date was immediately available, amid scrutiny of prior Child Protective Services visits.
