Crying for help': Mother blasted small children with bear spray in their eyes and mouth because she said they were misbehaving, cops said

An Alabama mother has been charged after police say she used bear spray on her two young children, an incident that came to light when one child ran into the street seeking help.

Child Found Crying for Help

Authorities say the case began on March 8 when a child was seen running down Wood Carriage Lane in Leeds, Alabama, around 1:45 p.m., yelling for help.

A caller contacted 911, reporting that the child appeared distressed, with red eyes and a swollen face.

Officers responded to the scene and followed the child back to her home.

Children Taken to Hospital

Police located a second child at the residence, and both children—reported to be of elementary school age—were taken to a hospital for evaluation.

According to investigators, both children told authorities that their mother had sprayed them in the eyes and mouth with bear spray.

Serious Allegations

Police say bear spray is significantly stronger than standard pepper spray and can cause severe irritation or even lasting injury, particularly when used at close range.

Officials described the alleged actions as deeply concerning, noting that such products are intended for use against animals, not people.

Arrest and Charges

The children’s mother, 36-year-old Christie Williams, was arrested and charged with torture or willful abuse of a child.

According to authorities, she told investigators the children had been misbehaving prior to the incident.

Custody and Case Status

Williams was later released from jail on a $15,000 bond.

The children have since been placed in the care of child welfare services.

The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
