Caleb Flynn, an American Idol alum, holds back tears during his court appearance after being accused of killing his wife.

Caleb Flynn, 39, made his first appearance in Miami County Municipal Court four days after authorities say he murdered his wife, 37-year-old Ashley Flynn, at their home in Tipp City.

Through his attorney, Flynn entered a not guilty plea. Addressing the judge directly, he said he simply wants to care for his daughters and insisted he is not a danger.

911 Call and Investigation

Ashley Flynn was pronounced dead Feb. 16 after police responded to a 911 call from Caleb reporting a burglary. In the call, the caller claimed someone had broken into the home and shot his wife, telling dispatchers she had been shot multiple times and pleading for help.

Authorities later arrested Flynn and charged him with murder, two counts of felonious assault and two counts of tampering with evidence. He is being held on a $2 million bond.

Flynn previously appeared as a contestant on American Idol in 2013.

Family Statements

Flynn’s attorney, L. Patrick Mulligan, said his client looks forward to defending himself and expressed concern about what he described as a rush to judgment.

Meanwhile, Ashley Flynn’s family said they trust law enforcement’s investigation and believe proper steps were taken before charges were filed. They remembered her as someone who brought light into the lives of those around her and said they are leaning on their faith during the difficult time.
