Norman Lee Johnson, 42, faces two counts of capital murder for the January 12, 2026, shooting deaths of Christopher Lopez, 52, and Trinette Rayson-Lopez, 52, in their Katy, Texas home on Bent Springs Lane.
Incident Details
Around 5:43 a.m., while the couple’s two adult children (in their 20s) and 7-year-old adopted daughter slept upstairs, Johnson allegedly entered without forced entry and shot Christopher once in the face near the living room and Trinette three times (twice in the head, once in the hand) near the kitchen. An adult child called 911 around 6 a.m. after hearing commotion and discovering the bodies; all three survivors were unharmed.
Arrest and Motive
Johnson, the biological father of the victims’ adopted 7-year-old daughter (his niece by family ties), was arrested Tuesday in Round Rock by U.S. Marshals Lone Star Task Force and booked in Williamson County Jail awaiting Harris County extradition. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez cited custodial issues as the likely motive, noting a prior October 2024 misdemeanor harassment charge where Johnson threatened to kill Christopher after being told to go through Child Protective Services for custody changes.
Family Response
The adult children described their high school sweetheart parents as caring, clarified the girl as an adopted cousin (not foster), and demanded full justice: “Our parents deserve justice and to know that we are safe from his harm.” Prior police calls to the home are under review.
