Apple Valley, MN – Aron Isait Medina Rojas, 20, has been charged with second-degree murder for the killing of Daniel Isaac Aguilar, 21, after a violent altercation on Sunday, July 6, 2025. Rojas was arrested after the body of Aguilar was found with what appeared to be a puncture wound to his chest, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
The Incident
At around 3:12 a.m., Apple Valley police responded to a call reporting a “non-responsive male lying on a sidewalk.” Upon arriving at the scene, officers found Aguilar’s body, which was still warm to the touch. He had a significant amount of blood around him, and police observed a puncture wound to his left chest.
A blood trail was found leading to his body, with personal items, a broken glass jar, and alcohol bottles scattered in the area. Surveillance footage from nearby cameras showed Aguilar walking just before the incident, followed by the headlights of a vehicle and sounds of an argument between two men and likely a woman. One of the men, later identified as Rojas, was seen approaching Aguilar and striking him in the chest.
The Altercation
According to the footage, Aguilar said, “I’m f–ing walking home bro. Let me be,” before Rojas allegedly punched him in the throat, causing Aguilar to collapse. Afterward, Rojas and a woman, believed to be Rojas’ girlfriend, walked toward Aguilar, with the woman reportedly illuminating his body with a phone before the pair walked away.
The Background of the Argument
Prior to the incident, Aguilar had been out with his girlfriend at a club in Minneapolis on the night of Saturday, July 5, where the couple had been arguing. Aguilar’s girlfriend later explained that she had received repeated calls from her friend, Rojas’ girlfriend, asking why she was with Aguilar due to allegations of cheating. According to the girlfriend, she had expressed hatred for Aguilar during the conversation with her friend.
After leaving the club, the couple drove to a Minnesota Valley Transit Authority parking lot in Apple Valley, where their argument continued. Rojas and his girlfriend arrived to pick up Aguilar’s girlfriend, who was reportedly crying at the time. As the second couple drove away, they allegedly saw Aguilar walking and discussed whether he was carrying a gun. Aguilar’s girlfriend later went back to search for his phone, which was the last known location tracked.
The Fatal Confrontation
According to Rojas’ girlfriend, after dropping off Aguilar’s girlfriend, she and Rojas encountered Aguilar again while on their way back to Rojas’ home. She claimed that Aguilar became aggressive, leading to Rojas exiting the vehicle and an altercation ensued. She witnessed Aguilar extend his arm before sitting down on the sidewalk, at which point Rojas allegedly returned to the car with blood on his shirt. He reportedly told his girlfriend that they needed to leave immediately.
Medical Examination and Cause of Death
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Aguilar’s death as the result of multiple sharp force injuries, and the manner of death was determined to be homicide.
