A mass shooting in Mississippi left at least four people dead and 12 injured.
The incident occurred in Leland around midnight local time on Saturday, October 11, according to the BBC and CBS News.
Leland Mayor John Lee told CBS News that the city where the shooting occurred was busier than usual because people were in town to attend Leland High School’s homecoming game against Charleston High.
CBS News reports that four of the injured were airlifted to the hospital. Their current conditions have not been disclosed.
Tylar Jarod Goodloe, 18 years old, is now in police custody. According to Desoto County News, authorities are asking anyone who has information about the incident to contact them.
Following the incident, Maylor Lee wrote on Facebook, “I’m deeply saddened about the tragedy that happened in the City of Leland.”
“Due to the tragedy and the safety of others. The block party is canceled!!!!!!!!!🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾,” the local politician continued.
According to the Daily Mail, a curfew was imposed in the city after the mayor declared a state of emergency, citing the Leland Police Department (LPD), which did not respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on October 11.
An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
The shooting occurred three hours after two people were fatally shot on a football field at Heidelberg High School, according to WDAM.
According to the outlet, Heidelberg Mayor Robert Barnett stated in a statement that “the City of Heidelberg will be in full cooperation with the school district, the sheriff’s department, and we will definitely pursue the person who caused this incident.”
