A routine spring break patrol in Daytona Beach led to the arrest of a convicted child killer who was found among vacationers, shocking both officers and the public.
Convicted Killer Arrested on Beach
Anthony Grove, 45, was taken into custody by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office during a crackdown on disorderly behaviour at the beach. Deputies said he appeared relaxed and was drinking with others when they approached him.
Authorities later confirmed that Grove was wanted in Ohio for violating his parole.
Past Crime Involving Infant Son
Grove had previously been convicted in a tragic case involving the death of his infant son. According to reports, the child died after being struck during a violent incident in 2015. He later pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment.
Due to his criminal history, officials had warned that he should be considered dangerous.
How Police Identified Him
During the encounter, officers initially questioned Grove about his background. According to police, he admitted he was wanted in Ohio, though he denied being on parole.
Deputies also noted that he had travelled across state lines without proper permission, which violated his parole conditions.
Additional Charges Filed
After his arrest, officers reportedly found a THC vape pen in his bag. As a result, Grove now faces additional charges, including failing to register as a convicted felon in Florida and drug possession.
He is currently in custody and awaiting extradition back to Ohio.
Police Response and Public Safety
Officials said the arrest shows the importance of routine enforcement during large gatherings like spring break. What began as a check on minor disturbances led to the capture of a wanted individual.
Authorities emphasised that keeping communities safe often depends on paying attention to even small violations.
