An Uber Eats driver who had just completed his final delivery was slain by his own van during a random carjacking, authorities say.

An Illinois man working two jobs to support his family was fatally struck by his own delivery van after being carjacked, police said. The Chicago Police Department announced on Tuesday that 33-year-old Montoya Perry was arrested in connection with the death of 28-year-old Daniel Figueroa, who was found dead outside Loretto Hospital in Chicago around 2 a.m. on Monday.

Details of the Incident

Figueroa had just completed an Uber Eats delivery to a doctor at Loretto Hospital when the carjacking occurred. Surveillance footage captured the moment Figueroa saw two men and a woman attempting to steal his van. As he tried to stop the theft, he was dragged by the van for half a block before the van sped away. Figueroa was later found lying in the street by the doctor, who went outside to pick up his order.

Family’s Tribute and Arrests

Figueroa’s girlfriend, Sandra Guerrero, shared that he had just finished an Amazon shift before starting his late-night Uber Eats shift to provide for her and her young son. Perry was arrested and charged with murder and vehicular hijacking. She remains in custody without bond until her court appearance on March 18. Authorities have not released further information on the other two suspects, and no additional arrests have been made.
