A McDonald’s manager from Belleville, Illinois, is facing a weapons charge after allegedly shooting the mother of one of her employees during a confrontation at the fast-food restaurant on July 16. The incident occurred when the manager, Kathy Bledsoe, 44, instructed a juvenile female employee to take out the trash, according to the Belleville Police Department.
The Dispute Escalates
When the teen refused to follow the instruction, Bledsoe claimed she told the girl to clock out for the day. In response, the teen contacted her mother, Tynika R. McKinzie, who arrived at the McDonald’s with another juvenile female. According to police, a verbal argument ensued between Bledsoe and McKinzie.
The Alleged Altercation and Shooting
The situation quickly escalated when McKinzie allegedly made her way behind the counter and into Bledsoe’s office. There, she reportedly attacked Bledsoe, battering her in the face and head. In response, Bledsoe allegedly pulled out a gun and shot McKinzie in the leg.
Arrests and Charges
Bledsoe was arrested and charged with one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. McKinzie, who was taken to the hospital to receive treatment for her injuries, was charged with aggravated battery and mob action.
Community Impact
Chief of Police Matthew Eiskant expressed his disappointment in a statement, stating, “It is unfortunate that this incident occurred. It seems individuals are quick to resort to violence to resolve disputes without consideration of the impact their actions have on the community as a whole. This was an unnecessary incident that could have been mitigated without punches being thrown or a gun being used.”
