The mother of two young boys who drowned in a swimming pool faces drug charges.

Mississippi authorities responded to a residence in Gautier on Monday, Oct. 20, following a complaint of two unresponsive youngsters near a pool, according to the city’s police department.

According to Gautier police, the two toddlers were carried to the hospital and were confirmed dead.

WLOX reported, citing the Jackson County coroner, that the two toddlers were brothers, aged 2 and 5.

According to Gautier police, the mother of the two children, Amber Goldman, 36, has been detained.

Police charged Goldman with possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia, with additional charges possible.

It is unclear whether Goldman has entered a plea or retained an attorney. She is now being imprisoned at Jackson County Jail.

“This is an unimaginable tragedy that has deeply affected our community,” Gautier police chief David Bever said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and first responders affected by this tragic loss. We urge that everyone keep them in your thoughts and prayers as investigators work to find answers.”

The county coroner determined that the two boys drowned, according to WLOX.

Police could not explain how the boys ended up in the pool or where their mother was at the time.
