Dané Josephine Waddell, a 31-year-old new mother from Spartanburg, South Carolina, died on January 7, 2026, after being struck and dragged by a vehicle in a shopping center parking lot on Whitney Road. Deputies responded to a 3 a.m. welfare check and found evidence confirming the cause of her fatal injuries, leaving her family, including her infant daughter born in October 2025, in mourning.

Waddell, remembered fondly by her aunt Sheina as charismatic, stylish, and skilled in cosmetology, had moved to Spartanburg as a teen for better schooling and built a vibrant community presence. Her family highlighted her outgoing nature, from babyhood smiles drawing people in to her talents in cooking, hair styling, and makeup.
