Four people were killed and at least 20 more injured when shooting erupted at a popular restaurant in South Carolina.
On Sunday, October 12, about 1 a.m. local time, officials responded to reports of a gunshot at Willie’s Bar and Grill on St. Helena Island, according to a news release issued on Facebook by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.
Hundreds of people were at the scene before “multiple victims and witnesses” fled to surrounding shops “seeking shelter from the gunshots.”
“Upon arriving at the scene, deputies made contact with a large crowd of people, several of whom were suffering from gunshot wounds,” the BCSO stated in a news release.

Police stated four individuals were killed on the scene, while at least 20 others were injured in the shooting. Four patients in critical condition were taken to local hospitals.
“More victims continued to show up at area hospitals seeking medical attention from injuries sustained at the scene,” according to the BCSO. The names of the victims have yet to be published.
According to a BSCO news release, authorities are working with numerous law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and the Beaufort County EMS team to investigate persons of interest.
“This is a horrible and tough situation for everyone. We appreciate your patience while we continue to examine this occurrence,” the BCSO said.
South Carolina Representative Nancy Mace said in a statement on X that she was “completely heartbroken” by the horrific tragedy.
“Our prayers are with the victims, their families, and everyone impacted by this horrific act of violence,” she posted on Facebook.
The event in South Carolina occurred less than a month after three people were killed and several others injured in a shooting at the American Fish Company waterfront restaurant in North Carolina on September 27.
