A daycare worker in New South Wales, Australia, has been convicted of assaulting and seriously injuring a four-year-old in August.

The 24-year-old woman, who has not been identified publicly, was detained on September 16 and charged with abusing a child, according to a statement from New South Wales police.

She pled guilty to recklessly injuring the youngster, ABC.net.au reported this week.

Police claimed their investigation began the day after the August incident in Bathurst, southeastern Australia. The worker forced the youngster into a bed during the attack, and the boy’s head contacted the edge of the bed, resulting in a 2-centimeter laceration, according to the statement.

According to ABC.net.au, the mother was attempting to put the boy to bed because he “was wriggling and obviously avoiding the accused’s attempts to lay him down,” according to police.

According to authorities, the woman then grabbed the child’s arms and pushed him down, causing him to hit the bed’s plastic corner.

The “sufficient force” caused major bleeding to the youngster’s head, with blood seeping into the stretchers, authorities said. Despite the serious injuries, the worker detained the child for 53 seconds. She apparently did not notice the bleeding.

The worker eventually contacted another worker on the scene, but the youngster was not taken to the hospital until his father picked him up, according to the outlet.

According to investigators, the child’s head needed to be “medically glued” back together.

The worker was fired after the event and arrested a month later.

She is set to be sentenced at a later date.
