The Horry County Coroner’s Office said that a man was fatally shot while staying at a North Myrtle Beach motel over the weekend.
Thomas Geddings, 41, of Bishopville, died after being shot Saturday while lodging at 2100 N. Ocean Blvd in North Myrtle Beach, according to Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard’s email on Monday.
Wofford Brown Webb II, 46, of Bishopville, acknowledged to shooting Geddings on the scene, according to police reports.
The event took happened at the Wyndham Towers Grove hotel. Willard said the shooting occurred around 1:10 a.m.
When police arrived at the location to investigate the reported shooting, Webb opened the door and was questioned, “Who shot him?” to which he replied, “I did,” according to police reports. Officers then went into the back bedroom of the scene and discovered Geddings on the ground.
A 9mm handgun sat on the bed nearby.
According to the arrest request, Webb’s son told police that Geddings and Webb had argued before the shooting. According to witness testimony, Webb then retrieved the gun and declared his intention to kill everyone.
Geddings was able to seize the gun from Webb, remove the magazine, and unload it; however, Webb returned to his room to retrieve another magazine and fatally shot Geddings, according to the arrest warrant.
After hearing the gunshot, a witness walked into the room to check, and Webb encouraged him to call 911, according to the incident report. The witness saw Geddings lying on the ground in the back room, unconscious.
Webb is still in the J Reuben Long Detention Center without a bond. He is charged with murder and possession of a firearm during a violent crime.
