According to authorities, a mother was arrested when her unrestrained 1-year-old son fell out of the truck and was ran over in a gas station parking lot near the Amazon fulfillment center.

Elizabeth Aguilar, 22, from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was arrested Tuesday, March 17, 2026, and charged with negligent homicide, failure to use a child passenger restraint system, and lack of insurance/registration after her unrestrained 1-year-old son, Nicholas Aguilar, fell from her Dodge Ram pickup and was run over by its rear tire. The incident occurred around 11:20 a.m. on February 20 near a Murphy USA gas station by the Amazon fulfillment center on Cortana Place.

Crash Circumstances

While turning out of the parking lot, the rear passenger door opened—child locks present but unused—ejecting Nicholas; another unrestrained child was also in the back with two adults aboard, and no car seats were in the truck. He was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to injuries.

Family Response

A GoFundMe by the aunt seeks funeral funds, describing the family as heartbroken and in shock over the sudden loss, aiming for a dignified burial. Police shifted from traffic crash probe to criminal charges after investigation.
