Demario McGee, 37, of Kansas City, Missouri, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon after allegedly shooting and killing his girlfriend, Katrice Williams, 32, in a domestic dispute outside a recording studio.

What Happened?

The shooting occurred early on Sunday morning outside a residence on East 62nd Street in Kansas City. According to the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office, police were called to the scene in response to reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found Williams lying outside a gold Chevrolet Traverse, suffering from gunshot wounds to her neck. She was declared dead at the scene by paramedics at 3:18 a.m..

McGee was found in the backyard, and witnesses described him as acting erratically. They reported hearing three gunshots before seeing McGee walking away from the area, later returning to the scene.

The Alleged Motive

McGee admitted to police that he and Williams had been using the recording studio in the basement of the house. The couple had been homeless, and they were sleeping in the gold Chevrolet Traverse.

According to McGee, the two had been arguing about her decision to stay in the car rather than coming inside with him. He claimed he felt emasculated by how she was speaking to him during the argument.

The situation escalated when Williams allegedly told McGee that she was going to leave him. McGee then allegedly fired a gun into the air in an attempt to scare her. According to McGee’s statement, the gun might have gone off accidentally, hitting Williams.

Aftermath of the Shooting

Following the shooting, McGee reportedly ran away from the scene, discarding the firearm in a nearby area. Witnesses described hearing the argument and gunshots before seeing a man matching McGee’s description running away from the property.

McGee was arrested and charged with the murder of Katrice Williams, whose tragic death is being considered an act of domestic violence.

Legal Proceedings

McGee is currently being held in the Jackson County Detention Center on a $250,000 cash-only bond. His case is under investigation, and further details will be revealed as the legal process progresses.

Victim’s Background

Katrice Williams was described by friends and family as a hardworking woman who was excited to be with her partner as they worked on their music. This senseless tragedy has left many grieving the loss of a young woman with a bright future ahead of her.
