Tracey Stanley, 63, received a 40-year prison sentence on January 9, 2026, after pleading no contest to second-degree murder in the death of her 72-year-old roommate, Andrea Kathleen Day, in Citrus County, Florida. The killing occurred around July 20, 2024, when Day was bludgeoned approximately 20 times in the head with a hammer’s claw end, as evidenced by DNA from both women on the weapon.
Crime Scene Evidence
First responders found Day’s decomposing body in the kitchen, covered by a blue tarp and three garbage bags over her head, with blood spatter on walls, ceiling, and floor plus drag marks from the hallway. Stanley had called 911 but avoided discussing the body during questioning and requested a lawyer; she had fresh facial scratches with blood. A mail carrier reported Day sought help evicting Stanley after serving notice on June 24, 2024.
Legal Outcome
Stanley entered her open plea in October 2025, sparing a trial, and Judge Joel D. Fritton imposed the sentence. Prosecutors from the Fifth Judicial District, led by Assistant State Attorney Blake Shore, secured her incarceration with the Florida Department of Corrections.
