A truck swerves into oncoming traffic, killing one person and injuring another, according to South Carolina officials

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, one person was murdered and another was sent to the hospital after a motorbike and a pickup truck collided Tuesday night.

Cpl. Nick Pye said the crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. in Lee County.

According to Pye, a 2023 Kawasaki motorbike was headed north on S.C. 341, while a 2015 Chevrolet pickup was heading south. Pye claimed the Chevy drifted to the left of the center line at the Mack Stuckey Road intersection and crashed with the motorcycle.

Pye said the motorcycle rider died.

The Lee County Coroner’s Office has not officially identified the motorbike rider.

According to Pye, the pickup driver was hurt and sent to a nearby hospital. More information about the Chevy driver’s condition was not provided.

No other injuries were reported.

There was no indication on whether the motorbike rider wore a helmet or the pickup driver wore a seatbelt.

The cause of the pickup’s turn toward oncoming traffic was unknown, but the Highway Patrol is still investigating the wreck.

According to the state Department of Public Safety, 701 people have died on South Carolina roads in 2025 as of Sunday. According to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, at least 948 persons were killed in collisions last year.

DPS data show that at least five persons died in Lee County collisions in 2025. There were four deaths in the county in 2024, according to DPS.
