A tragic helicopter crash in Hawaii has left multiple people dead, as officials continue to investigate what caused the accident near one of the island’s most scenic areas.

Helicopter Crash Near Kauaʻi Coast

At least three people were killed after a tour helicopter crashed into the ocean near Kauaʻi on Thursday afternoon. According to the Kauaʻi Police Department, the aircraft went down around 3:45 p.m. near Kalalau Beach along the island’s northwest coast.

The helicopter was carrying five people, including the pilot and four passengers, when the crash occurred about 100 yards offshore.

Rescue Efforts and Survivors

Emergency responders were alerted through the department’s text-to-911 system and quickly began rescue operations. Two survivors were pulled from the crash site and transported to Wilcox Medical Center in Lihue for treatment.

Officials have not yet shared details about their condition.

Tour Company and Aircraft Details

The helicopter was operated by Airborne Aviation, a company known for offering adventure-style sightseeing tours. These tours often provide aerial views of Kauaʻi’s cliffs, waterfalls, and coastline.

The aircraft involved was a Hughes 500 helicopter, a lightweight model commonly used for tourism because of its speed and ability to navigate scenic areas.

Investigation Ongoing

Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims or confirmed what caused the crash. Derek Kawakami urged the public to avoid speculation as the investigation is still ongoing.

Officials say more details will be shared once the investigation progresses.

Popular Tourist Area

Kauaʻi is widely known for its natural beauty and dramatic landscapes. The Na Pali Coast, where the crash occurred, is one of the island’s most visited locations and has even been featured in films like Jurassic Park.
