Tyler Wood, a 27-year-old Blackford County Sheriff’s deputy employed since 2022, faces felony charges of aggravated battery causing risk of death (Level 3), domestic battery resulting in serious bodily injury (Level 5), and strangulation (Level 6) stemming from an off-duty incident on December 30, 2025, in Muncie, Indiana.
Muncie Police responded to a domestic violence call at a North Allison Road residence, where they found the victim bleeding from her forehead; dispatch heard a man say, “You’re bleeding all over the apartment” during the 911 call.
The victim suffered head trauma, arm and leg injuries from punches, kicks, and bites, and reported Wood threatening to “kill her” after the assault.
Sheriff’s Response
Sheriff James “Jim” Heflin placed Wood on unpaid administrative leave immediately and launched an internal investigation, emphasizing serious treatment of violence allegations while noting due process limits disclosure.
Court Status
Wood remains in Delaware County Jail without bond, with only the aggravated battery charge listed on his jail record as of early January 2026.
Prosecutors requested until January 7, 2026, to file formal charges, coinciding with a 9 a.m. firearm seizure hearing under Indiana’s dangerous individual laws.
No further updates on charges or hearings appear as of January 4, 2026.
