Constantine Demetriades, a 21-year-old senior at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, was arrested on December 3, 2025, for possessing a firearm on school property after a shipment of 1,500 rounds of 9mm ammunition arrived at his dorm, leading to the discovery of an AR-15 rifle under his bed.
Discovery and Items Found
Campus safety officials investigated the ammunition delivery addressed to Demetriades, searched his room, and located an unloaded AR-15 in an unsecured black case, along with six magazines (one loaded), a tactical vest, multiple knives, a black security vest, ear protection, and a pistol storage case. Rollins College policy explicitly bans “any substance or device identified as a weapon” in residence halls.
Student’s Statements
Demetriades admitted knowing weapons were prohibited on campus but claimed he did not think ammunition possession was illegal; he had a New Jersey concealed carry permit (invalid in Florida), had brought the rifle from Thanksgiving break, stored it off-campus previously except once, and pursued shooting as a hobby after working armed security at Orlando clubs. He stated no bad intentions.
Legal and College Actions
Charged with possession of a firearm on school property (up to five years possible), Demetriades qualified for pretrial release on December 4 and faces an ongoing student conduct process, barring him from campus. Rollins College confirmed initiating an investigation upon the weapons policy violation report, with full student cooperation leading to arrest.
