Berkeley County, South Carolina — A second victim died many weeks after a Moncks Corner house collapsed.
Berkeley County Coroner Darnell Hartwell said his office was told on Sunday of a second death related to the Sept. 25 collapse of a residence on Rufus Lane.
Deborah Nelson, 67, of New York, has been recognized.
Another victim, 65-year-old Sandra Tillman of New York, died from injuries and complications caused by the house fall.
On September 25, just before 8 a.m., many agencies responded to a residence off Rufus Lane in Moncks Corner, where they discovered the structure had collapsed, trapping two persons beneath it.
Both victims were extricated from the wreckage and sent to nearby hospitals. The reason for the collapse has not been revealed.
The coroner’s office, the South Carolina Fire Marshal, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division are all investigating the case.
