An infant was discovered dead in a residential facility on the campus of the University of Southern California.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, police went to a radio report in the 3100 block of McClintock Avenue on Monday, Oct. 27 — the location of USC’s Cardinal Gardens Apartments — and “found a deceased full-term infant.”
The finding occurred just over an hour after first responders arrived at the same site on complaints of a 20-year-old woman having difficulty breathing, according to KTLA. She was taken to a local hospital, according to the outlet.
Authorities have not confirmed whether the two calls at the location are related.
The infant was only 19 hours old, according to a coroner’s report quoted by NBC 4 Los Angeles.
The LAPD tells PEOPLE that its investigation is ongoing, and that it is presently classified as a “undetermined death pending the Coroner’s investigation.”
Annenberg Media at USC announced on Instagram that an autopsy is set on Tuesday, October 28, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. A school representative referred a query about the incident to the LAPD.
Cardinal Gardens Apartments are located on the north side of USC’s campus, across McClintock Avenue from the dining hall.
