A woman who claimed she became pregnant in jail without physical contact has been convicted of murdering the father of her older children.
Daisy Link was found guilty of second-degree murder on Thursday, October 16, for the deadly shooting of Pedro Jimenez in 2022, according to Local10, CBS News, and NBC Miami. Link, 30, and Jimenez had been together for nine years and had two children, according to Local 10.
PEOPLE previously reported that Link went viral in 2024 after claiming to have become pregnant by another convict despite having no physical contact. She was accused with Jimenez’s murder and was in jail awaiting trial when she gave birth to Joan DePaz’s baby last year.
DePaz is also charged with murder, according to WSVN.
The couple claimed they used bedding to create a line between their two cell vents. Then, DePaz allegedly used it to deliver Link’s sperm wrapped in Saran wrap. “I can’t believe it worked,” Link told the publication in November 2024. “I think everything happened for a reason.”
PEOPLE called the South Miami Police Department for comment.
When it comes to Jimenez’s killing, authorities believe Link shot her partner out of rage. “This is a toxic relationship with domestic violence going back and forth,” prosecutor Alex Bergida stated in court, according to Local 10. “Do you know what Ms. Link did?” She lit a match and started the fire that night because she wanted to end the relationship and this was the best way to do so.”
According to the publication, Link’s lawyer, Ayuban Tomas, claimed that Jimenez “made it clear that he was going to break into that home, lock her out, and keep her away from her children, which he had no right to do.”
Tomas went on: “And, importantly, she has every right ― every right ― to use deadly force to prevent him from doing that.”
According to CBS News, the jury found Link guilty in less than two hours on Thursday, and Local 10 reports that Link exhibited no emotion during the conviction.
Juror Kenan Bowie explained why he voted for Link’s conviction. “If he’s running away, shot in the back, [it] doesn’t seem like self-defense if he’s running away,” he claimed, as quoted by Local 10. “There was a lot that she lied about, from the second she called 911,” he stated.
Local 10 reports that the infant Link gave birth to while in prison is now with family members.
