A six-year-old Florida girl was fatally stabbed more than 20 times by her mother, who was found lying next to the girl’s body, police allege. The incident occurred on Wed., Feb. 25, just after midnight, when deputies with the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a “cutting incident” at a home in Milton.
Details of the Incident and Discovery
Upon arrival, deputies found April Oliva, 40, lying with the body of the 6-year-old victim. The child was pronounced deceased at the scene. Oliva sustained injuries during the incident and was transported to a local hospital, where she is currently receiving medical treatment. A warrant was issued for her arrest on a charge of murder in connection with the death of her daughter.
Oliva’s Disturbing Call and Investigation
According to the arrest report, Oliva made a disturbing call to her sister, Amy Tuttle, around 11 p.m. on Tues., Feb. 24, mentioning evil spirits and something bad happening. Oliva’s sister alerted her father, Steven Tuttle, who arrived at the house and discovered his daughter and granddaughter, Valerie, lying on the floor covered in blood. Oliva allegedly stated multiple times, “she’s dead,” and Valerie was pronounced dead at the scene from over 20 stab wounds.
