Authorities in New Jersey are asking the public for information after a woman was discovered dead in what is now being investigated as a homicide.

According to a statement from the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, police responded to a complaint of an unresponsive woman at an Atlantic City, New Jersey apartment on Saturday, October 11. Christina Burdette, 34, was found by authorities and pronounced dead on the spot.

The Southern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy and ruled that her death was homicide, however the cause of death was not revealed in the press release.

While additional information about her death was not immediately available, Burdette’s family told 6ABC that her corpse had apparent injuries and her head was wrapped in gauze.

“They said she looked like she was in a fight,” the victim’s sister Nicole Burdette told the publication, adding that the family “doesn’t want to point fingers,” but finds the situation “very sketchy.”

Christina’s family says she leaves behind two children, aged three and six, who are orphaned after their father died a few years ago, according to 6ABC. Nicole informed the source that the house where Christina’s body was discovered belongs to a relative of the deceased father, but she has no idea why Christina was there.

As of Wednesday, October 15, police have not made any arrests or issued charges against anyone.

Her family remembers her as a caring mother with a gentle and peaceful spirit.

“She didn’t annoy anyone. “She was primarily concerned with her children,” Nicole told the newspaper. “You would have thought, because she was so to herself and so angelic and her own little person, she would have died from old age.”

Her mother said she will fight for justice for her daughter as they seek answers.

“If it was your daughter or your son or something happened to your child or your kids, ya’ll would want the same exact help,” Nicole went on: “and as a community we should all work together.”
