A mother kicked a pregnant school resource officer in the stomach after she refused to allow her visit her child at her elementary school, according to the sheriff's office.

Khadeeja Muhammad, 44, faces multiple misdemeanor charges after allegedly assaulting a pregnant school resource officer at John Small Elementary School in Washington, North Carolina, on January 29, 2026.

Incident Overview

Muhammad entered the school around 2:15 p.m. demanding to see her daughter amid a custody dispute and social services restriction barring contact. The officer, aware of the situation, said verification was needed; Muhammad then screamed profanities, refused to leave, and escalated by throwing water from a bottle at staff.

Officer Assault

As deputies assisted in removing her, Muhammad kicked the pregnant officer in the stomach while resisting commands. No injuries occurred to the officer or her unborn child. She was booked into Beaufort County Detention Center on $1,000 bond.

Charges include assault on a pregnant woman, assault on a government official, resisting a public officer, second-degree trespassing, and disorderly conduct. A judge recommended a mental health evaluation; no next court date was listed in records.
