A mother is accused of shooting and killing a one-year-old daughter; the father of the child says the mother was attempting to "send her to God."

Kristen Bass faces first-degree murder charges for allegedly shooting her 1-year-old daughter, Acelynn Moss, in Sulphur, Louisiana, on January 1, 2026. The incident occurred around 8:21 p.m. at a Quelqueshue Street residence, where police found the child dead upon arrival. Bass, 28, remains in custody on a $10 million bond.​

Incident Account

Bradley Moss, the father, reported hearing a loud boom, rushing in to find Acelynn shot and Bass holding the gun while their 2-year-old daughter cried. He claimed Bass said she shot Acelynn to “send her to God” and intended to harm the older child next. Louisiana DCFS took custody of the surviving toddler.​

Charges and Status

Sulphur Police charged Bass with first-degree murder shortly after the shooting. No further details on motive, mental health evaluation, or court dates emerged as of early January 2026. Police requested tips via Sgt. Jeremy Cain at 337-527-4558.​
