Police said they received a 911 call around 9:30 a.m. reporting a body near Bay 44th Street and Shore Parkway at Calvert Vaux Park. When emergency responders arrived, the man was found unresponsive on the rocky shoreline.

Officials confirmed there were no obvious signs of trauma at the scene. The body was later removed by authorities for further examination.

Investigation Underway

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of New York City will determine the exact cause of death. At this stage, investigators have not released the identity of the man.

Context and Similar Incidents

Officials note that bodies in water are sometimes discovered as temperatures rise, as natural processes can cause them to surface. Earlier this month, another body was found in the waters near Red Hook in Brooklyn. In 2024, multiple bodies were also recovered in and around Jamaica Bay.
