A man was found guilty of a wrong-way DUI crash that killed a groom-to-be just days before his 22nd birthday.

Saul Saldana Armenta, 22, was convicted on February 6, 2026, of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated in Tulare County Superior Court for a wrong-way DUI crash on April 24, 2024, that killed 21-year-old Lisandro Santos.

Crash Details

Armenta drove his Dodge Charger southbound in the northbound lane of Highway 99 near Betty Drive in Goshen, California, around 3:11 a.m., colliding head-on with Santos’ Honda Civic.
Santos, an engaged electrician heading to work, died at the scene just days before his 22nd birthday; Armenta showed intoxication signs, with a BAC of 0.21% post-hospital surgery.

Trial Outcome

The jury found the aggravating factor of great bodily harm; despite no prior record, Armenta was remanded immediately.
Sentencing is set for March 5, 2026, with up to 10 years in prison under California law.
