A 24-year-old man is suspected of killing his parents in Ohio, fleeing to Michigan, and then crossing into Canada.

Maxwell Anatra has been charged with murder, according to jail records in St. Clair County, Michigan. The suspect is thought to have murdered his parents, 61-year-old Lisa Anatra and 63-year-old Matthew Anatra, at their house in Crestline, a hamlet between Cleveland and Columbus.

On Wednesday, Lisa Anatra’s coworker called authorities, requesting that law enforcement officers check on her home because she had not shown up for work and they believed they had “seen blood at her residence.”

Officers from the Crestline Police Department and the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office responded at the residence on the 700 block of North Henry Street, Crestline. Lisa Anatra had died inside. Matthew Anatra, who had also died, was inside the detached garage.

Investigators have not revealed the cause of death.

Family members of the couple told investigators that their son, Maxwell Anatra, had been at the house the night before but had not been able to talk with them. According to deputies, detectives discovered that he had been in Michigan earlier on Wednesday “and might be trying to leave the country.”

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office obtained a warrant for his arrest for murder and worked with the Department of Homeland Security to ensure his capture. At around 5:30 p.m., deputies discovered that he had been held by Canadian officials after crossing the border.

As of Friday, the suspect was still jailed in St. Clair County, Michigan. He is projected to go around 230 miles back south to northern Ohio.
