A tragic family dispute has turned deadly in Florida, where a 57-year-old man is accused of fatally shooting his sister in what prosecutors are calling a premeditated act of violence. Now, he may face the death penalty if convicted.
Florida Man Accused of Killing Sister After Eviction Dispute
Pedro Pablo Linares, 57, was formally indicted for the first-degree murder of his 60-year-old sister, Beatriz Linares-Calamita, after she allegedly kicked him out of their mother’s house earlier this year. According to court documents, the eviction happened because Pedro was neither helping financially nor contributing to the care of the home.
After being forced out, Linares allegedly began showing up uninvited at his sister’s home. But things took a violent turn on April 4, when he reportedly showed up at her workplace in Miami and shot her multiple times at close range, killing her.
Caught on Camera: Disturbing Footage from the Crime Scene
The Ring doorbell camera at the front of the victim’s workplace captured key moments that helped police piece together the case. At 4:59 p.m., Pedro Linares was seen wearing blue gloves and a surgical mask as he attempted to open the door—but it was locked.
About 36 minutes later, he returned. This time, the door was open.
Police say he entered the building with a firearm in hand and shot his sister multiple times, then fled. The victim’s husband and daughter later identified him in still images taken from the Ring camera footage.
Manhunt Ends in Louisiana
After the killing, Linares fled to Louisiana, where he stayed under the radar for over three months. He was finally arrested on July 15 and brought back to Florida to face charges.
He now faces:
First-degree murder
Armed burglary with assault
The case was presented to a grand jury, which formally indicted Linares on September 3.
Prosecutors to Seek Death Penalty
On Monday, the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office announced that they will seek the death penalty in the case, citing the premeditated nature of the killing and the cold, calculated execution.
Linares is currently being held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court again on October 1.
