A police affidavit gives additional information on former TV anchor Angelynn “Angie” Mock’s mental state before to allegedly killing her mother.
Mock, a former St. Louis television anchor and reporter, was arrested on Friday, Oct. 31, for reportedly fatally stabbing Anita Avers, 80, in their Wichita, Kan., home, according to authorities.
Mock, 47, is accused of first-degree murder and is being jailed on a $1 million bond, according to county records.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed on November 4 by a Wichita Police Department investigator and obtained by PEOPLE, Mock allegedly called 911 dispatchers and told them that her “mother tried to kill her, so she stabbed her in return.”
When authorities arrived at the home just before 8 a.m., they discovered Mock bleeding outdoors and holding a towel.
Officers discovered Anita on her bed, with several stab wounds to her head, face, and chest.

“Next to Anita on the bed, [an officer] located multiple kitchen style knives and a cheese grater, laid out on a pillow,” according to the waiver. “There was blood on all the utensils…” The top layer had at least 12 holes in the top half, which were consistent with knife cuts.”
When an officer asked what had happened, Mock allegedly said she went to her mother’s room “to talk and saw her sharpening knives,” according to the affidavit. She accused her mother and then attacked her with a knife.
“Angelynn was stronger, so she pushed her back,” the document says. “When her mother said, ‘I know you’re f—ing Jesus Christ,’ she backed away…” Angelynn stated that her mother began pouring vitriol at her out of her f—ing mouth, so she had to stab her to save herself.
Mock allegedly later told authorities that she went to talk to her mother about a planned job interview with a television station and discovered her mother “sharpening knives with bigger knives,” according to the affidavit.
She reported that her mother chased her around the home. “She said ‘I had to kill her, she wasn’t going to stop,'” the document said. Angelynn initially claimed she stabbed first, but later stated that her mother stabbed first.
Mock was transported to the hospital and treated for lacerations on her left and right hands, as well as the inner right arm.
Anita’s husband Barry allegedly told authorities that Mock moved in with them four or five years ago after she was laid off due to “an explosive situation involving alcohol.”
According to Barry’s statement to authorities, Anita encouraged her daughter to get therapy from a psychiatrist at the time.
“Barry remembered Angelynn was originally diagnosed with bipolar disorder but was later revised to schizoaffective disorder,” according to the witness statement. “To his knowledge, Angelynn was taking medication, but he didn’t know what kind and thought she took it as prescribed. She did have angry outbursts, but he never thought she was violent or threatened.”
Barry allegedly informed authorities that his stepdaughter had a “explosive outburst” a few years ago, requiring hospitalization for around two weeks.
He remembered another outburst three or four weeks before the killing, when she allegedly shouted at the family during a card game. “She accused the family of hating her and said she hated everyone,” the affidavit reads.
Barry claimed he’d previously heard Mock say things like, “They’re all robots” and “They’re not real people.”
According to the affidavit, after being treated at the hospital, Mock was brought to the police station for an interview.
“Angelynn made several statements to herself in which she believed her mother was the devil. She responded, ‘I’d kill that b—— to get my mom back any day. I don’t know who she is anymore. I know; I believe she’s the devil.”
