Louisville, Kentucky – Chadwick Fleming, 35, and Davone Collins, 26, have been indicted by a grand jury in connection with the October 2024 homicide of Mitchell Jackson, whose body was found wrapped in sheets at a Louisville intersection. The Louisville Metropolitan Police Department announced the indictments in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
Jackson, 34, was discovered on October 20, 2024, at the intersection of 18th Street and West Muhammad Ali Boulevard. At the time, police reported that his body had been wrapped in duct tape, and further investigation confirmed that he had died from gunshot wounds.
Details of the Crime
According to an arrest citation obtained by WAVE (NBC affiliate), Fleming was arrested on October 25, 2024, just five days after Jackson’s body was found. The investigation revealed that Jackson’s body had been bundled with sheets and garbage bags, secured with zip ties and duct tape. Authorities also allege that the body was tied to the bumper of an SUV and dragged through the streets by Fleming.
At some point, police say, the body became detached from the SUV, and Fleming attempted to load it into the vehicle’s back. Surveillance footage reportedly shows Fleming dumping Jackson’s body at the intersection.
Charges and Arrests
Initially, Fleming was charged with tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse. Following the grand jury’s indictment, Fleming now faces an additional charge of murder. He was booked into the Louisville Metropolitan Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.
Collins was also indicted on tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse. Police have not publicly revealed details about his role in the crime or his relationship to Fleming. Collins was arrested without incident on Tuesday and has been booked into the Louisville Metropolitan Detention Center.
Both men are scheduled to appear in court on July 28, 2024.
