WALTERBORO, SC — A bicyclist was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle in Colleton County over the weekend.
Just before 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, emergency crews arrived to the intersection of Beachwood Road and Green Pond Highway after discovering that a man had been struck by a vehicle.
Witnesses told first responders that the man was riding a dark-colored bicycle on Beachwood Road and did not stop at a stop sign. “He entered the path of a southbound sedan and was struck by the car,” Colleton County Fire Rescue authorities stated.
The bicyclist had numerous serious injuries, including several bone fractures. He was first treated on the spot by firefighter-paramedics before being transported to a trauma hospital in North Charleston.
According to officials, the car’s driver was uninjured. Walterboro Police are investigating the accident.
