A Chicago father was fatally shot during a Facebook Live broadcast, and police are now searching for a suspect

A tragic shooting on Chicago’s West Side is under investigation after a father was gunned down during a Facebook livestream, shocking viewers and leaving a family in mourning. The victim, identified as Kevin Watson, was shot while sitting in his car on West Madison Street in the South Austin neighborhood on Wednesday, August 14, around 6:14 p.m., according to the Chicago Police Department (CPD).

Shooting Captured on Facebook Live

Watson had reportedly started a Facebook Live video after leaving a nearby liquor store. Not long after starting the stream, a vehicle pulled up, and someone inside fired a gun, striking Watson in the chest. The moment of the shooting was partially caught on video, according to media reports from NBC News and ABC 7 Chicago.

Witness Recalls Terrifying Moments

A close friend, Alvin Jackson, who was near the scene, told ABC 7 that Watson had been talking to someone before heading to his car.

“He was going to his car, then the guy followed behind him,” Jackson said. “The guy pulled a gun on him. He was trying to wrestle with the gun, and the gun went off.”

The chain Watson was wearing, which read “Tugg,” was found on the ground near the car and is now part of the police investigation, NBC News reported.

Victim Died at Hospital

Watson was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. He was described by friends and neighbors as a devoted father and someone who had been trying to turn his life around.

No Arrests Yet, Suspect Information Still Unknown

As of now, no suspect description has been released, and no arrests have been made. CPD detectives are currently reviewing the Facebook livestream, any surrounding surveillance footage, and gathering witness statements.

Community Grieves Another Life Lost to Gun Violence

The killing adds to ongoing concerns about gun violence in Chicago, particularly in neighborhoods like South Austin. Local residents are calling for more community safety measures and urging anyone with information to come forward.
