Tractor Supply Company, a leading retailer for farm and pet products, has announced its ambitious expansion plans, with the company set to open 90 new stores by the end of 2025. The retailer, which is the biggest rural lifestyle retailer in the United States, currently operates 2,311 stores across 49 states and employs over 50,000 people.
Expansion Plans for 2025
So far in 2025, Tractor Supply Company has already opened 15 new stores in locations including Big Bear Lake, California; Clare, Michigan; and Amelia, Ohio. The company is targeting an additional 75 new locations for the year, bringing the total number of new stores to 90 by the end of 2025. The company’s spokesperson explained that these new locations have been selected for their ideal footprints, favorable lease terms, and strategic positioning to meet the needs of farmers, livestock and pet owners, ranchers, gardeners, and homeowners, among others.
Special Focus on Petsense Stores
In addition to its new Tractor Supply locations, the company is also planning to open 10 more locations for its specialty pet store, Petsense by Tractor Supply, this year. A recent addition to the chain was in Orange, Texas, which brings the total number of Petsense locations to 206 stores across 23 states. Though the timeline for these new openings has not been finalized, the growth of the Petsense stores is part of the company’s broader retail expansion strategy.
Looking ahead, Tractor Supply Company plans to continue its expansion into 2026, with plans to add 100 new Tractor Supply stores and 10 more Petsense locations.
Big Lots Purchase and Future Plans
In another strategic move, Tractor Supply Company recently acquired 18 Big Lots locations in 15 states. These locations are expected to further strengthen Tractor Supply’s presence and reach. Meanwhile, Big Lots has re-opened all 219 of its stores that were purchased by Variety Wholesalers, with the final wave of re-openings occurring on June 5.
Lisa Seigies, CEO of Variety Wholesalers, expressed excitement over the comeback of Big Lots, highlighting their focus on offering new deals, famous brands, and an expanded apparel department for families. Seigies also noted that the stores may not be perfect at first but are gradually improving each week.
Alongside Tractor Supply, Ollie’s, another discount retailer, purchased 63 Big Lots locations. Ollie’s CEO praised the condition of the properties, noting that minimal renovation was needed to open the stores.
Tractor Supply Company’s ongoing expansion demonstrates the company’s commitment to growing its retail footprint and providing essential products for rural communities across the United States. With its new stores, expanded Petsense locations, and strategic acquisitions, the company is well-positioned for continued growth in the coming years.
