A fatal crash in Lancaster County claimed the life of one driver, authorities said.

Driver Dies After Hitting Tree on U.S. 601

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 6:29 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 601 at Little Dude Avenue, about a mile north of Cheraw.

Officials reported that the driver of a 2006 Lexus GS 300 was traveling north on U.S. 601 when the vehicle veered off the road and collided with a tree. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been released. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances of the crash.
