A man is charged with murder in the Windblow shooting

A Richmond County man has been charged with murder following a shooting on Friday morning.

Shooting in Windblow Community

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office reported that a call came into the 911 Center around 11:47 a.m. on May 22, reporting a shooting in the Windblow community. This area is located in the northeast corner of Richmond County near the borders with Montgomery and Moore counties.

By late afternoon, RCSO confirmed that one person had died and another individual had been taken into custody.

Murder Charge and Arrest Details

Michael Thomas Long, 64, with a listed address on Windblow Road, was booked into the Richmond County Jail at 7:54 p.m. on Friday. He is charged with an open count of murder in connection with the death of Lacy Kyser Jackson.

Long is also facing a charge of possession of a firearm by a felon for allegedly having a 12-gauge pump shotgun. He is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on June 4.

Criminal History and Other Charges

Records show Long has two pending traffic citations for failure to wear a seat belt and operating a vehicle without insurance. In 2009, he was convicted of possession or distribution of a meth precursor and received a suspended sentence, according to the N.C. Department of Adult Correction.

Presumption of Innocence

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
